Abijah Babbitt (1832-?), Served in Co. B, 3rd Mo. Regiment.

Albert Babbitt (1829-?), Died in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War.

Allen T, Babbitt (1846-1911), Served in Co. D., 18th Connecticut Regiment, Dec. 14, 1863 - June 27, 1865. Wounded at Snicker's Gap, Va,. July 18, 1864.

Amos L. Babbitt (1830-1906), Enlisted from Colchester, Conn. Served in Co. L, 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery, Jan. 30, 1862-March 13, 1862.

Amos Wooster Babbitt (1840-?), Enlisted in Company K, 96th New York Volunteers in Granville, NY, November 28, 1861.  Was Coporal.  Discharged honorably September 29, 1864, from wound received at Chapmans Farms.

Charles Carpenter Babbitt (1832-?), Enlisted in Company I, 126th Regiment in 1862.  Was Sergeant, later Lieutenant.  Later he resigned and reinlisted in the regular Army at West Point as a musician and remained there until the close of the war.

Charles E. Babbitt (1842-1864), Killed in battle, May 8, 1864.

Charles Franklin Babbitt (1836-1864), Was First Lieutenant in a N. Y. Regiment in Civil War. In the attack on Atlanta he got up from a sick bed to lead his Company and lost his arm, July 20, 1864, dying soon after.  Enlisted Aug. 1862, Co. A, 141 N. Y. Volunteers.  Also served in 107 N. Y., and later First Lieutenant of 14 Corps.

Charles Freeman Babbitt (1841-1874), Wounded in Battle of Franklin, Tenn., Co. I 72nd Ill., Civil War.

Charles Joy Babbitt (?-1888),  Served in Co. D, 2nd Reg. Kentucky Cavalry with his brother Hiram.

Charles Mattoon Babbitt (1829-1891), Served in Company C, 37th Massachusetts Regiment for three years.  Was in seventeen battles but was wounded but once.

Charles W. Babbitt (1842-?), Served in a New York Artillery Regiment in Civil War.

Cyrus Byron Babbitt (1841-?), Served in Civil War in 18th U. S. Regiment Infantry.

David Dean Babbitt (1832-?), Served 1862-4 in Co. K, 4th Massachusetts, in Civil War.

David Osmer Babbitt (1833-1895),  In 1864 he enlisted in Co. M, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry and served six months; wounded.

Eben Willoughby Babbitt (1806-1874), Served in Co. B, 3rd Mo. Regiment.

Ebenezer Babbitt (1822-1912), Served in Navy in the Civil War. Enlisted Nov. 5, 1863. Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer.

Edwin Burr Babbitt (1804-1881), Graduate, West Point Military Acadamy, Class of 1826, Brevet 2nd Lieut., 3rd Infantry, July 1, 1826, lst Lieut., March 31, 1834, Captain - Asst. Quartermaster, July 7, 1838, Captain, 3rd Infantry, July 1, 1839, Brevet Major, May 30, 1848, for meritorious conduct while serving in the enemy's country., Major Quartermaster, May 10, 1861, Brevet Colonel, March 13, 1865, for faithful and meritorious service in Civil War., Brevet Brig. Gen., March 13, 1865, Col. Asst. Quartermaster Gen., July 29, 1866. Retired from Service 1869. Also see Edwin and the Alamo (site 1, site 2).

Elbridge Harris Babbitt (1844-?),  He attended the Military School, Norwich University, Vt., and while there he enlisted June 7, 1862, in the 17th U. S. Infantry as sergeant with headquarters in Portland, Me. He soon went with his regiment to the Army of the Potomac at Harrison's Landing, Va. He was in the battle of Fredericksburg and was seriously wounded at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863, and was sent to a hospital in Philadelphia. In March, 1864, he joined his brother Robert in the North Carolina Union Vols. as Second Lieutenant. He was most of the time acting Adjutant and Assistant Adjutant General in the Department of North Carolina until the close of the war.

Elijah C. Babbitt (1839-1907), Was in 9th N. Y. Cavalry; six months in Libby Prison; in twenty six battles. Wounded several times. Served entire four years of the war.

Elkins Babbitt (?-?), Served in Civil War (Battle of Bull Run), Killed in action.

Eugene S. Babbitt (1843-1862), Served in Civil War, Killed in action.

Francis B. Babbitt (?-?), Served in Co. B, 3rd Mo. Regiment.

Francis Sanford Babbitt (1843-?), Enlisted in the 39th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, Aug. 25, 1862, was transferred to the U. S. Signal Corps in 1863, and served in the War of the Rebellion until June, 1865, and was then honorably discharged by reason of the close of the war.

George Henry Babbitt, Jr. (1841-1877), August 5, 1862, enlisted in Company F, 39th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, and was made a Sergeant of his company.

Hampton Marsh Babbitt (?-1889), Company H, 2nd New Jersey Volunteers, three years service, enlisted May 29, 1861, discharged June 21, 1864.

Harvey Babbitt (?-1888), Served in the Civil War and lost an arm.

Henry Smith Babbitt (1826-1904), He served as First Lieutenant in 31st Ohio Volunteer Infantry and later as Senior Aide-de-Camp on Gen. George Thomas staff.  He resigned from the army to accept an appointment in the office of Secretary Chase in Washington.  In 1863 he returned to Ohio to act as paymaster of the Ohio troops called out to repel Morgan's raid and afterward served on a committee to settle claims arising from that raid.

Hiram Answorth Babbitt (1841-?), Served in Civil War, Co. D, 2nd Regiment, Ketucky Cavalry.   Enlisted Aug. 13, 1862, served three years, twenty three days, till close of war.

Hugh Babbitt (1817-?), Served in Co. G, 50th Ill, in the Civil War.

Israel Babbitt (1839-1862), Served in Civil War, Co. G, 50th Illinois, killed in action, Paducah, KY.

Isaac Babbitt (?-?), Served in the Civil War as a musician in Co. H, 2nd N. J. Infantry Volunteers, May 29, 1861 - June 21, 1864.

Jacob Babbitt (1809-1862), On the organization of the 10th (three months) Regiment Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry, in response to an urgent call from the Secretary of War, Mr. Babbitt accepted the position of Major and served until the time of that regiment had nearly expired, when he accepted the same position in the 7th (three years) Reg. R. 1. V. I. then being organized.  He shared with his men the tedious duties of garrison life until ordered to join the 7th Rhode Island Regiment then in camp near Providence. Major Babbitt's commission for the 7th bears date Sept. 1, 1862, the day on which the Regiment was mustered into service.   He died December 23, 1862 of wounds received December 13, 1862 at the First Battle of Fredricksburg (see family story).

James Babbitt (1836-?), Belonged to Co. G, 50th Illinois.

James Bradford Babbitt (1827-?),  Mr. Babbitt had the following service in the Civil War: On the call for nine months' men, he enlisted in Co. B, 42nd Regiment, M. V. M., Col. Burrell. The regiment was sent with the Banks expedition to capture and hold Galveston, Texas. The regiment was divided and sent on separate boats. That with the Colonel and several companies reached Galveston, landed, and being unsupported, were captured by a superior force. The boat Co. B was on, an old and hardly seaworthy one, had to put in first at Port Royal and afterward at New Orleans. They were transferred to another boat and were ready to sail for Galveston when the news arrived of the capture of the Colonel and his men. Co. B remained at New Orleans doing guard duty and going on expeditions into the enemies' country for nearly a year, when they were sent home and mustered out, having seen but little actual fighting.

James Elkanah Babbitt (1839-?), Private and Corporal in Co. K, 7th N.J. Volunteer Infantry. Enlisted Oct. 2, 1861. Discharged July 7, 1863.

Job Babbitt (1839-1921), Civil War veteran; four years service, Co. C, 17th Illinois; also sergeant Co. A, 7th U. S. Vet., April 4, 1865-April 3, 1866.  Mr. Babbitt was wounded at battle of Fort Donelson, Tenn. Served through siege of Vicksburg. His regiment was most conspicuous in service, serving in every battle from Belmont to Vicksburg. In all these battles Mr. Babbitt took active part.

John Babbitt (?-?), Ran away to War.  Served in Illinois Regiment.  Died in Libby Prison.

John E. Babbitt (1828-1890),  A Lawyer and officer in the Civil War.

John Warren Babbitt (1839-?), Served in Civil War - with splendid record.

John Wheaton Babbitt (1832-1895), Enlisted in August, 1862, Private in Co. C., 24th Michigan Infantry.  In the Battle of Gettysburg, the 24th Michigan entered with 496 men, of whom 316 were killed and wounded. This Regiment sustained the greatest loss of any Regiment engaged in the battle on the Union side. Mr. Babbitt was seriously wounded at the very first of the engagement, and suffered the loss of a leg in consequence.

John Wood Babbitt (1835-1906), At the first call for troops he enlisted in the Eighth Illinois Regiment for three months and later enlisted in the 58th Illinois with which he went to the front as Second Lieutenant of Co. B.
Mr. Babbitt saw active service at Fort Donelson and Pittsburgh Landing, in which latter engagement he was wounded in the thigh, and subsequent illness compelled his resignation.   After his convalescence in Keene, he again left for the front in August, 1862, as Captain of Co. 1, of the 9th New Hampshire Volunteer Regiment and until almost the close of the war was in active service.  Some of the battles in which he participated were, Pleasant Valley, Fredericksburg, Siege of Vicksburg, Antietam and the Wilderness.  In Nov. 1862, Mr. Babbitt was promoted for bravery to Lieutenant Colonel.  His last active service was in Spottsylvania where he was again wounded in the hip.  The surgeon not being able to find the ball his life was despaired of, and by special leave from the Secretary of War was allowed to return to Keene where the ball was finally found and removed. Jonathan Babbitt (1838-1895), Mr. Babbitt had a service in Union Army in Civil War.

Joseph H. Babbitt (1832-?), Between August 11, 1862 and June 10, 1865, Illinois 89th Infantry, Company F, enlisted August 11, 1862, Mustered in, October 13,1862, Mustered out, June 10, 1865.

Lansford Otto Babbitt (1842-1891), Served in the Civil War.

Lawrence Sprague Babbitt (1839-1903), Graduated, West Point Military Acadamy, Class of 1861., 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Artillery, June 24, 1861., Brevet Ist Lieutenant, July 21, 1861, for gallantry at Battle of Bull Run., 1st Lieutenant, March 3, 1863., Brevet Captain, March 13, 1865, for meritorious service in Ordnance Department during War., Captain of Ordnance, Dec. 22, 1866., Major, May 10, 1878., Retired as Colonel, 1903. Burried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Leander Babbitt (1833-?), Served in the Civil War and was in "Sherman's March to the Sea."

Lewis Babbitt (1823-1900), Served in Co. E, 3rd Cavalier, Jan 4-Sept 23, 1864.

Lysander Clinton Babbitt (1828-1867), Served in the Civil War.

Nathaniel Monroe Babbitt (1822-1905), Served nine months in Co. H, 3rd Massachusetts Regiment, 1862-3 in Civil War.

Orson Babbitt (?-1898), Served in Co. B, 3rd Mo. Regiment.

Orson Lewis Babbitt (1840-?),  Served in Civil War.  Enlisted Aug. 29, 1863, in Co. G, 33rd N. J. Regiment and served ubtil May 26, 1865.

Oscar L. Babbitt (1838-1894), Served in Co. I, 5th Vermont Volunteers, thoughout the Civil War. Was twice wounded. Enlisted Aug. 26, 1861. Discharged July 10, 1865.

Pliney Henry Babbitt (1818-1908),  In 1862 Mr. Babbitt enlisted as private in Co. F, 53rd Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry, and on the organization of the company was made second Lieutenant.  During his time of service he was detailed to various important duties, among them being assistant commissary on the "Continental" carrying supplies to New Orleans.  After expiration of service he returned to Barre, but was later called to Washington, where for a year he was recruiting officer.

Robert Augustus Babbitt (1842-1864),  In 1861 he joined the 8th Connecticut Regiment of Volunteers as private and was appointed Hospital Steward. In 1862 he was appointed Superintendent of the Hammond General Hospital in Beaufort, N. C. In 1863 he was promoted Surgeon of the First North Carolina Union Volunteers, having headquarters in Washington. In 1864 he received the appointment of Post Surgeon at Beaufort where his labors were too excessive. His health gave way and he contracted yellow fever from which he died Oct. 17, 1864.

Samuel Bascom Babbitt (1844-?), Served in the U. S. Signal Corps in the war.

Samuel Flint Babbitt (1824-?), Served in Co. F, 4th Heavy Artillery, Aug. 15, 1864; June 1865.

Samuel Morey Babbitt (?-1867), Served in Co. D, 43rd Massachusetts Regiment, in the Civil War.

Sidney Babbitt (1835-1889), Served in Co. G, 40th N. J. Regiment, Civil War. Enlisted Feb. 14, 1865, and served till the close of war. Discharged July 13, 1865.

Stephen Babbitt (1843-?), Served three years in 72nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

Stephen Barlow Babbitt (1834-1904), Enlisted in Union Army, Co. I, 27th Kentucky Infantry. Served four years. Was Orderly Sergeant.

Stephen Irving Babbitt (1834-1883), Enlisted Aug. 4, 1862 in Co. B, 15th N. J. Regiment, in the Civil War.

Sylvester Babbitt (1835-1900), Appointed acting third Assistant Engineer in U. S. Navy, April 18,1863. Honorably discharged, 1865.

Warren Morris Babbitt (1832-?), Served in Civil War. Assistant Surgeon 55 Massachusetts Regiment; also in 103 Regiment, U. S. Volunteer.

Willard Babbitt (1830-?), Served in Civil War, Company D, 43rd Massachusetts.

Willard Babbitt (1846-?), Served in Co. K, 44th Massachusetts Regiment.

William Babbitt (1828-1894),  A member of the N. Y. Dragoons in Civil War. Lost a limb in service. Enlisted Sept. 3.1864, Co. H, 1st N. Y. Dragoons.

William Calvin Babbitt (1845-1900), Served in the Civil War.

William L. Babbitt (1831-1862), Enlisted from Castleton, Vt., Aug. 16, 1861, in the 1st N. H. Volunteer Light Battery. Killed in Battle Aug. 29, 1862 in Groveton, Va.

William Leander Babbitt (1842-1864), Member of the 5th New York Cavalry and of Kilpatricks' Body Guard.   Captured, died in Andersonville Prison.

William Matthews Babbitt (1821-1875), Major in Civil War. Paymaster in Army, Feb. 27, 1863. Resigned Oct. 26, 1863.

William Pitt Babbitt (1843-?), William Pitt Babbitt enlisted at first call for troops in April, 1861. Served in Co. A, 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, for thirty-eight months and five days. A great part of this service was as Clerk at Division or Corps Headquarters.

William Simpson Babbitt (1827-1908), Served in Civil War. Private in Co. B, 7th New Jersey Regiment. Later in Co. H, same Regiment, in 1862. August 24, 1864, enlisted in Battery D, First Artillery

William Snellem Babbitt (1824-1880), Served in Company B, 49th Massachusetts Regiment.

Isaac Paull (1824-1864), Died in Army in 1864. Lieutenant of Co. F, 39th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers.

William Wallace Reed (1844-1932), Entered the war with Battery G, Fifth Company, of the 76th Heavy Artillery of the Union Army, on July 30, 1862, and was discharged July 30, 1865, and was engaged in many thrilling battles. Among the most noted of them were; Plains Store, Louisiana, 1863; Seige at Port Hudson, Louisiana; skirmishes in battle of the entire Red River campaign in the spring of 1864; bombardment of Fort Morgan, Alabama, in August, 1864; Hatchers Run, VA; Quaker road; and Appomatox Court House in Virginia in 1865.

Henry C.Spencer (1842-?), He enlisted in Co. F, 94th N. Y. Vols., and was wounded in the leg in the second battle of Bull Run, and was discharged in February, 1863, by reason of his wound. In September, 1864, he enlisted in Co. B, 10th N. Y. H. A., and was with the regiment until it was mustered out in 1865.
